i%26#039;ve been having my student credit card from Bank of America for apprx. a year and a half. my limit hasn%26#039;t been raised (it%26#039;s at $700) and i was never late for a payment. I was using it a lot, sometimes maxing it out, but lately i only use 200-250 and then pay it off. Also, i don%26#039;t have much money in the bank, usually 500 or so.
So why didn%26#039;t they give me a raise yet? is it too early? am i doing something wrong? and does the credit score have anything to do with credit card limit?(higher the limit, better the score?)
thanks
Question about credit cards/credit score?
well it also has to do with your income but you won%26#039;t lose anything by calling and asking for an increase.
Question about credit cards/credit score?
Just call and ask to have it raised. They usually will if it has been some time between limit increases.
Question about credit cards/credit score?
Because the account is not designed to increase you credit worthiness! It%26#039;s designed to allow credit to be established! Go ask for a new credit card at BofA and ask for a larger credit limit! If you are gainfully employed, they%26#039;ll be happy to give you about three grand worth of credit!
Question about credit cards/credit score?
It was due to your maxing out the cards. Even though you have paid down the balance, they don%26#039;%26#039;t want to chance getting stuck with a large amount to collect if you default.
If you keep your balance below 30% of your available credit, they will increase it over time.
If you don%26#039;t use the card for a period of time, they will increase the limit to entice you into oweing them more.
I have a card that I have not used in over 7 years, but keep the account open in case of emergency, and they went from a $500 limit to over $10,000 now, but I ain%26#039;t gonna bite.
Question about credit cards/credit score?
Like stg big res said = It was due to your maxing out the cards.
Pay off your bills in full each month and keep it under 30% and you WILL have to wait a long time to see a change.
