They wrote on the tab how much to put on each card. There was still a balance of 14 cents AFTER I ran the credit cards. I brought it all back to the table and politely told them that there was still a small balance. One of the ladies acted very offended. I went around the corner and listened to their conversation for a minute. This woman was APALLED that I would bring this to their attention. I was not rude or offensive, I just wanted to make sure they knew. All of them left 20% tips, except this woman drew a line through the tip on her credit card slip. Should I have just let it go?
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
I have worked in the service industry most of my life and have developed a theory that all customers instantly become brainless twits and 60% of the time massive, impatient creeps on top of it. Theres no rule of thumb here. I dont think you did anything wrong, it sound like this person was just another average brainless twit massive impatient creep customer. Im sorry that happened though.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
You shoulda beat her down she is ignorant
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
No! Charge her card 30%!!
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
yeah, .14 cents is nothing really.
I am shocked that with 11 people you only got a $40 tip. I hope they all only had one refill max, no apps, salads, bread service ,etc.
I hate how people disregard tipping here, yet will b-tch and moan about bad service....its like they never thought of incenting good service.
When I used to wait tables (this only applies to large parties) I would notify the guests at the table that I do not add on gratuity, even though its common place, because I feel my section was my restaurant and I want you to come back to my restaurant not just be seated here.
Besides, gratuity sucks on big tops/parties usually. I did end up getting fired though from a restaurant for following a customer out of a store and asking him why he went out to eat if he wasn%26#039;t going to tip. He told me it wasn%26#039;t his obligation to pay my salary and I asked why he didn%26#039;t bring this up prior to being waited on. He told me it was because he knew he would get bad service, so I told him don%26#039;t come back and fix your wifes teeth....yes he complained to the manager.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
No you get paid to do a job not to pay their balances. As for the person who vetoed your tip......RUDE RUDE RUDE
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
Next time, you should ask the host that you need to have separate receipts, this way, you avoid this type of problems.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
yeah let it go... that women was a total jerk... she probably wets her bed too
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
11 PEOPLE AND THE BALANCE WAS 14 CENTS..
ARE YOU EFFEN CRAZY......................................
just count your 20 percent tip..........be lucky that you had that table......................................
stop crying for chump change.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
It is not your responsiblity to pay their bill. And you didn%26#039;t do anything wrong. What were you suppose to do?....pay the left over $0.14 ? No way!!!
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
If it is common to expect a tip on the credit card receipt, I would have let the 14 pennies slide. Then if they don%26#039;t leave you any tip, your problem with them is not about 14 cents, but about proper tipping.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
if there is one thing, i hate it is being on the other side being waited on.....and giving a waitress 40.00 for a 39.12 balance and he not bringing change back. That is rude. As for you pointing out the still had a balance..no I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s rude. 14 cents is 14 cents no matter how you look at it. She is rude, hopefully you will never have to see her again. Stingy lady.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
Since everyone else left you a 20% tip, my guess is that they weren%26#039;t offended at all. My guess is that they didn%26#039;t agree with her and wanted to make sure you were tipped appropriately, at least from them.
I would have felt just awful, if I had accidentally shorted you $.01 or $1.00 - no matter, I need to pay my tab!! I used to wait tables, and I%26#039;m very aware that wait staff frequently has to tip-out to bartenders and bus boys, even hostesses sometimes get a cut. So I never like tipping too little, but I am a stickler on my customer service... But I digress!
Regardless, this woman may have been a you-know-what or she might have just had a really, really bad day. Either way, be confident that she must have needed the 14 cents more than you did.
;-)
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
That woman sounds crazy, and even if you had said nothing, she probably would have left you a lousy tip. Who gets that appalled over 14 cents? I mean it isn%26#039;t as if you went to her, and very loudly in front of all the customers told her her credit card declined or something!
14 cents is a very small amount of money - regardless, none of THEIR meal should come out of YOUR pocket, so no, you were not out of line.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
Yes. I waited tables for 2 years in college. If the only balance left over was 14 cents then it really wouldn%26#039;t have been worth her swiping her card again. I know it sucks but you could have afforded to lose 14 cents out of your tips that day when you turned in your money at the end of your shift. You did the right thing letting her know she was short, technically. However, I would have just let it slide and covered it myself. The lady sounds like she was a B-word anyway. Bringing her money shortage to her attention shouldn%26#039;t have cost you a tip. Forget her, she%26#039;s probably one of those overly picky diners anyway.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
yes just let it go and next time you see her you should kill her with kindness......
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
No, you did what was right. I don%26#039;t think people know that in Georgia and Michigan and many other states waitresses are legally paid BELOW Minimum wage and expected to get tips to make up the difference! My daughter has to pay her taxes every night when punching out, a minimum of 8% of all tabs, whether she got a tip or not on a table, plus she has to tip the bartender, busboy and salad person, who are paid minimum wage!
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
Let it go, it is not worth it. Everyone left a tip except for the individual who acted offended. Obviously everyone else wasn%26#039;t bothered by your remark, it was not rude or they also would not have left a tip. You did a good job serving them and they showed their appreciation for that by tipping you. That particular woman is the type who will look for whatever she can to complain about, or be offended about, to feel better about herself; she is insecure and her acting offended and appalled is her way of trying to make herself look high and mighty in front of the others.
Take the high road......don%26#039;t stoop to her level; be and act professional; friendly; and don%26#039;t forget to smile.
That woman doesn%26#039;t realize: what goes around comes around.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
I would have just not said anything in the first place. I mean it%26#039;s 14 cents, I would have just pulled 14 cents out of my pocket and put it in there, just so I didn%26#039;t have to deal with bitchy customers. Customers can be such *******. I agree you shouldn%26#039;t have to deal with them, but it%26#039;s worth 14 cents out of your tip to not have to even bother.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
yes you should have let it go
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
You did the right thing.I work in a restaurant and some customers have been to that special school where they are not taught manners! It%26#039;s not your 14 cents to give away. However rude customers are I always remain polite. Why can they have not just split the bill. I bet her friends thought she was a bit over the top too!
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
Yes, you should have let it go. Your manager would have agreed.
You were polite to them. That%26#039;s all you can do. They probably didn%26#039;t include tax in their calculations. In addition, most restaurants add a gratuity to parties of 8 or more. Did your restaurant do this?
Next time ask, %26quot;Separate checks%26quot; with that size party before taking that order. This way you won%26#039;t have this problem.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
The general public can be so ignorant. Unfortunately, I think all you can do is let it go. If that woman came back into my restaurant, I think I would be tempted to make sure she knew what the bill was before I served her. So you had to pay the 14 cents out of your tips??? Crazy.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
Yes,I%26#039;ve been waiting tables for many years.14cents is not worth losing a future tip .Now on the other hand if they did NOTleave a proper tip,, yes I would say something.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
The woman was rude. But all that hassle for a lousy 14 cents.
I could see if it was 20 bucks. If you got your 20% that should be OK, next time ask if they want separate checks.
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
I worked in the business for 15 years bartending and waiting and personally I would have let it go but don%26#039;t you just wish that EVERYONE for a month of their life had to work in the food industry....those nightmares ( and we all had a few ) would really be alot different to wait on!!!
I waited on a party of 11 last night. When it was time to pay, they gave me 6 credit cards and $40.00 cash.?
My late wife was a waitress for many years and she would report to me the HORROR shows some customers would perform when it came time to pay. I think that it is typical of some people when it comes to parting with their money. Some people are even down right moronic about leaving a tip for their server. The way you handled it, in my opion, was correct and please don%26#039;t let a few %26quot;MORONS%26quot; disuade you from being a good or %26quot;GREAT%26quot; server because you will be remembered for the service you give by the best tippers and forgotten by the morons that really don%26#039;t belong in public dining establishments anyway!
